Social Media Community Guidelines

NBCOT manages a variety of social media channels and aims to create an informative, engaging, and supportive community where we can share information and have conversations.

If you post to one of our social media channels, or otherwise respond or comment on one of our posts, you agree to abide by these Guidelines, which apply in addition to the Terms and Conditions or other legal notices that are provided by us and/or the owner of the social media platform. The comments and responses that you read on our channels that are not posted by us come from members of the public. The contents of these comments, including opinions and statements, posted on our channels do not necessarily reflect the views of the social media site or its owner and are the responsibility of the individuals posting them.

Be Respectful. It’s okay to disagree with others but cutting down or insulting individuals will not be tolerated. Comments will be removed that are:

  • Abusive, defamatory, or obscene
  • Fraudulent, deceptive, or misleading
  • In violation of any intellectual property right of another
  • In violation of any law or regulation
  • Otherwise offensive
  • Off topic

The moderator has the right, but not the obligation, to monitor all content, to reject or remove any inappropriate or offensive content, and to block a user.

Stay on Topic. We welcome discussion about preparing for the certification exam, exam prep resources, certification, continuing competency, certification renewal, and occupational therapy. The moderator reserves the right to edit or remove inappropriate or off-topic comments at any time.

Intellectual Property of Others. Do not post NBCOT exam questions, NBCOT study tool questions, and/or questions copied from other sources to avoid copyright infringement and violating our Code of Conduct.

The NBCOT certification exams and the items contained therein are protected by federal copyright law. No part of an exam may be copied, reproduced, or shared in any manner, in part or whole, by any means whatsoever, including memorization, verbal, written, and/or electronic transmission, which includes, but is not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, cell phone, Quizlet, blogs, and discussion forums. Posting exam or study tool questions to social media or websites constitutes a test security and copyright violation as noted in Principles 1 and 9 of the NBCOT Candidate/Certificant Code of Conduct. Individuals in violation of the code of conduct are subject to disciplinary action and could jeopardize their ability to sit for the certification exam and/or be certified to obtain a license to practice.

Protect Your Privacy. Protect your privacy and don’t give out personal information. Doing so may make you susceptible to spam and unauthorized communication.

Everything is Public. Nothing is private when posting or commenting on a social media channel. Posts or comments can be indexed and can turn up in search engines years later. It is important to ensure that you do not say something that you might regret later. Do not post or comment on anything that you would not want others to know. Remember that the information you share on a public feed may be captured, stored, accessed, potentially disclosed, and used inappropriately by others.

License to Use Your Content. By posting on NBCOT’s social media pages, you grant us the right to use or reproduce your content. Your posts and any ideas contained in them may be freely used by us in any way and in any media, including on our other websites and social media pages, and in our business.

Links to Other Websites. NBCOT is not responsible for the content of any linked website, any link contained in a linked website, or any changes or updates to such website. The inclusion of any link does not imply endorsement by NBCOT of that website. In addition, please be aware that NBCOT is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. NBCOT encourages you to read the privacy statements of every website that requests personal information from you.

The Bottom Line. NBCOT reserves the right to determine, at our discretion, whether contributions to our social media channels breach our Guidelines. We reserve the right for moderators to hide or delete comments made on our channels, as well as block users who do not follow these Guidelines. NBCOT reserves the right to change, remove, or deny access to the content on our pages and is not responsible for any consequences you may experience as a result. The content we post is believed to be reliable at the time it is made public; however, we cannot guarantee any information is complete or accurate at all times. NBCOT reserves the right to amend these Guidelines at any time without prior notice.
