What are NBCOT Microcredentials?
The microcredentials recognize national board-certified OTRs and COTAs who have demonstrated knowledge in a focused area of practice. They are time-based, multiple-choice assessments that evaluate knowledge of evidence-based practice with relevant clinical scenarios. They are an excellent way to demonstrate your knowledge and be recognized in your field.

The microcredentials recognize national board-certified OTRs and COTAs who have demonstrated knowledge in a focused area of practice. They are time-based, multiple-choice assessments that evaluate knowledge of evidence-based practice with relevant clinical scenarios.
There is no specific preparation needed; however, there is a content outline available for each microcredential that includes topics that will be assessed. Reviewing the content outline prior to taking a microcredential may be helpful for preparation.
No, there are no eligibility requirements. However, it is recommended that you have experience in one of the following areas before earning a microcredential:
- Direct client service
- CEU course training
- Teaching or mentoring
- Conducting or presenting research
- Authoring journal articles, books, chapters, or CE materials
The microcredentials are free and available to currently certified OTRs and COTAs on the NBCOT Navigator® platform.
Yes, you will have 60 or 90 minutes to complete the microcredential based on the length of the microcredential.
You will receive a performance feedback report with a "Pass" or "Did Not Pass" result. Additionally, you will receive a list of recommended readings for your reference. Articles that are available in ProQuest will have a hyperlink available for your convenience. You may email the entire list to yourself for future reference of the readings provided.
You will have 3 attempts total to successfully earn a microcredential during each 3-year renewal period.
Depending on the microcredential, certificants can earn 1.5-2 CAUs for successfully passing the microcredential. Microcredentials that have 50 items are worth 1.5 CAUs and microcredentials that have 75 items are worth 2 CAUs.
You will receive an email two to three weeks after successful completion of the microcredential with information on how to access and download your digital badge.
The microcredential is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
